Tae Kwang Shares Fall 19% in Sell-Off as Middle East Delays Weigh

Tae Kwang fell 19.08% on Nov. 6, 2026, with no filing of its own, as Middle East delays and fund-driven profits put the KOSDAQ fittings maker in focus.

Tae Kwang Shares Fall 19% As Middle East Delays Weigh

Shares of Tae Kwang Corporation fell 19.08% to ₩22,050 on Nov. 6, 2026, nearly four times the 5.03% slide in the KOSDAQ, the market where the Busan pipe-fitting maker trades under code 023160. Tae Kwang made no filing on DART, Korea's official disclosure system, that day, yet the drop took about ₩132 billion ($98 million) off its market value.

The sell-off put two features of the stock in front of foreign investors. Korean analysts say delays in Middle East projects have pushed back revenue in its main fittings business, while gains on financial investments, mostly funds, produced most of its profit in the first half of 2026.

In that half, revenue rose 23.0% to ₩166.0 billion ($122.4 million) and operating profit rose 10.0% to ₩16.6 billion ($12.2 million), according to the company's preliminary filing of Aug. 11, 2026. Net profit was ₩97.8 billion ($72.1 million), almost six times operating profit.

Won figures here are turned into dollars at ₩1,356.6, the rate Yonhap reported for 3:30 p.m. in Seoul on Nov. 6, 2026.

Preliminary consolidated results from DART filings of Oct. 30, 2025 and Aug. 11, 2026; margins are our calculation.

Q2 2026 shows the split most clearly. Operating profit fell 22.9% from the first quarter to ₩7.2 billion, while pre-tax profit jumped to ₩86.6 billion ($63.9 million), 405.1% more than in Q2 2025.

Where the Profit Came From

Finance income drove that jump. Tae Kwang booked ₩118.1 billion ($87.1 million) of finance income in the first half of 2026, more than seven times its operating profit, according to the notes to its half-year report filed on Aug. 14, 2026. In the first half of 2025, the same line was ₩20.6 billion ($15.2 million).

The largest pieces were ₩62.2 billion ($45.9 million) of gains from revaluing financial assets at market prices, ₩26.1 billion ($19.3 million) of gains from selling some of them and ₩21.7 billion ($16.0 million) of dividends received. Finance costs came to ₩11.1 billion ($8.2 million), including ₩8.2 billion ($6.0 million) of valuation losses.

At June 30, 2026, the group held ₩275.9 billion ($203.4 million) of financial assets carried at fair value through profit or loss, up from ₩182.7 billion at the end of 2025. Funds and other indirect investments made up ₩246.4 billion ($181.6 million) of that consolidated total.

That portfolio was equal to 49% of Tae Kwang's market value of ₩561.4 billion ($413.8 million) at the Nov. 6 close, although the two figures are more than four months apart. Because changes in value pass through the income statement, a weak market can turn those gains into losses, so net profit can track financial markets as closely as orders for fittings.

Earnings Per Share

Tae Kwang earned ₩2,410 ($1.78) per share in 2025, up 42% from ₩1,695 in 2024, according to FnGuide data on Naver Finance. Earnings per share (EPS) is net profit attributable to shareholders divided by the share count.

In 2026, EPS rose to ₩1,033 in the first quarter and ₩2,277 in the second, or ₩3,310 ($2.44) for the half, already above all of 2025. Most of that came from gains on financial investments rather than fittings, as the table above shows, so EPS can swing with fund values.

At ₩22,050, the shares traded at 9.1 times 2025 EPS and 4.9 times the FnGuide consensus of ₩4,480 ($3.30) for 2026. That low multiple reflects investment gains that may not repeat, and the consensus expects third-quarter EPS to fall to ₩310. The Q3 results have not been filed yet.

What Tae Kwang Makes

Tae Kwang was founded in August 1982 as Taekwang Bend Industrial, went public in September 1994 and took its current name in March 2001. Its shares trade on KOSDAQ, the Korea Exchange's junior market. Its fittings change the direction or diameter of a pipe, or branch it off a main line, in LNG and petrochemical plants, power stations, desalination plants, ships and offshore structures.

Fittings produced 88.58% of revenue in the first half of 2026, and 80% of fittings sales were exports. Most of the rest came from HYTC, a subsidiary with its own KOSDAQ listing that makes parts for battery production lines for customers including Samsung SDI, LG Energy Solution and SK Innovation.

Few producers compete at its level, the company says. Its half-year report names Tectubi and Tecnoforge in Europe and Tae Kwang and Sung Kwang Bend in Korea as the few makers with the technology and plants to share the global market for industrial fittings. On a parent-company basis, Tae Kwang's 2025 revenue of ₩265.6 billion ($195.8 million) was 54.5% of the two Korean companies' combined sales.

The U.S. is where Tae Kwang sees growth. Its revenue from the Americas rose from ₩47.9 billion in 2022 to ₩60.8 billion ($44.8 million) in 2025. "The Americas market is emerging as the company's biggest growth axis," Tae Kwang said in the report (translated from Korean), pointing to new LNG export terminals, pipeline expansion and gas-fired power plants built to meet power demand from AI data centers.

Its nuclear references include the Vogtle 3 and 4 units in the U.S. and the Barakah plant in the United Arab Emirates.

Why the Shares Fell

Both of Seoul's main indexes fell hard on Nov. 6: the KOSPI by 6.02% and the KOSDAQ by 5.03%. Investors feared that a Democratic Congress elected in the U.S. midterms could slow the building of AI data centers, Yonhap reported. "Concerns that the US Congress could further tighten regulations on AI data centers were behind the market plunge," said Lee Kyoung-min, an analyst at Daishin Securities, according to Yonhap.

That fear touches one of Tae Kwang's U.S. growth pillars. The stock dropped as low as ₩19,820, 27.3% under the previous close of ₩27,250, and ₩19.7 billion ($14.5 million) of shares traded, according to the Korea Economic Daily's market data. The close was 57% below the 52-week high of ₩51,300.

Expectations for the core business had already fallen. On July 23, 2026, Korea Investment & Securities cut its target price from ₩74,000 to ₩56,000, the Korea Economic Daily reported. The newspaper tied the cut to the prolonged conflict between the U.S. and Iran, which had delayed construction, so revenue lagged even though Tae Kwang had won major projects.

On Oct. 26, Kim Geon-woo, a researcher at the same brokerage, cut the target again, by 16.1% to ₩47,000, while keeping a Buy rating, Money Today reported. He expects revenue from short-lead-time Middle East orders to be booked only from the second half of 2027 because the end of the war has been delayed, and he lowered his operating margin forecast.

Tae Kwang says it is more exposed to the region than its Korean peers. "Among domestic fitting makers, the company holds the largest export record and market share in the Middle East," it said in the half-year report (translated from Korean). On Nov. 7, 2026, Yonhap reported from Washington that President Donald Trump said the U.S. had been talking with Iran, while some observers said strikes on Iran could resume, according to the Financial News.

Share Count, Pension Fund and Dividend

Tae Kwang has also cancelled shares. It retired 632,758 treasury shares under a Jan. 30, 2026 board decision and another 406,602 under a Sept. 10 decision, reducing the total from 26.5 million to 25,460,640, or by 3.9%. The cancelled shares had a book value of ₩21.2 billion ($15.6 million).

The National Pension Service, Korea's state pension fund, cut its stake from 6.57% to 5.53% between April 3 and July 9, 2026, according to a report filed on Oct. 2. It sold a net 268,492 shares on the market and gave its purpose as simple investment.

The board declared a quarterly dividend of ₩78 ($0.06) a share on Oct. 30, 2026, a yield of 0.3%, with a record date of Nov. 16 and payment on Nov. 30.

Korea context: Tae Kwang is funding this dividend from capital reserves rather than ordinary earnings. Shareholders approved moving share premium into retained earnings at an extraordinary meeting on May 29, 2025, and the company says the payout is therefore not taxable under Korea's corporate and income tax rules. The board also fixed a record date that falls after the announcement, so buyers know the payout before they must hold the shares; the filing does not address foreign shareholders.

What to Watch

Third-quarter results come first: under Korea's capital markets law, the quarterly report must reach regulators and the exchange within 45 days of the Sept. 30 quarter-end. Korea Investment & Securities expects consolidated revenue of ₩68.7 billion ($50.6 million) and operating profit of ₩7.1 billion ($5.2 million), below the ₩81.4 billion and ₩11.6 billion reported for Q3 2025. The report will also show the value of the fund portfolio at Sept. 30, 2026.

Orders are the second test. Fittings orders totaled ₩117.0 billion ($86.2 million) in the first half of 2026, less than the ₩147.1 billion of goods delivered. Kim expects standalone orders of ₩89.6 billion ($66.0 million) in the third quarter, with U.S. orders filling the gap left by the Middle East and making up for the weak first half, Money Today reported.

Valuation is the third. At ₩22,050, the company was valued at about 0.8 times the ₩706.6 billion ($520.8 million) of equity attributable to its shareholders at June 30, 2026. On Korea Investment & Securities' numbers, investors were paying 7.8 times Tae Kwang's expected 12-month earnings on Oct. 22, little more than half the 13.5 times for Sung Kwang Bend.

Taken together, Tae Kwang fell on a day of market stress with no news of its own, but the drop hit a stock whose sales wait on delayed Middle East work and whose profit leans on fund gains. The next dated event is the Nov. 16, 2026 record date for the ₩78 dividend, payable on Nov. 30, with third-quarter results due by mid-November.
