Penetrium Bioscience Rises 11.7% as the KOSDAQ Falls 5%

Penetrium Bioscience rose 11.72% on Nov. 6, 2026 as the KOSDAQ fell 5.03%. Losses, a shrunken share sale and an 18-patient FDA trial frame the move.

Penetrium Bioscience Up 11.72% as KOSDAQ Falls

Shares of Penetrium Bioscience Inc., a KOSDAQ-listed company that runs clinical trials for drugmakers while developing its own cancer drug, rose 11.72% to ₩6,290 ($4.64) on Nov. 6, 2026, as the KOSDAQ index fell 5.03%. The company made no filing to explain the gain, which left a business with shrinking sales and steady losses valued at about ₩402 billion ($297 million).

The stock, code 187660, gained ₩660 from its previous close of ₩5,630, according to Hankyung market data. It traded as low as ₩5,110, down 9.2%, and as high as ₩6,620, up 17.6%, while ₩8.83 billion ($6.5 million) of shares changed hands. Dollar figures in this article use ₩1,356.6 per dollar, the rate quoted in Seoul at 3:30 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2026, according to Yonhap.

The wider market fell for a second day. The KOSPI dropped 6.02% to 5,059.69 and the KOSDAQ 5.03% to 644.27, as concerns that the U.S. Congress could tighten rules on AI data centers after the midterm elections hit chip and technology shares, the Korea Herald and the Financial News reported. Penetrium's last filing before the move was an Oct. 19 report on an insider's shareholding, according to DART, Korea's electronic disclosure system.

Its accounts give little support to the price. Revenue fell in 2025 and again in the first half of 2026, and the company reported an operating loss in every period below.

Period Revenue Operating loss
Q2 2026 ₩2.12 billion ($1.56 million) ₩1.86 billion ($1.37 million)
Q1 2026 ₩1.69 billion ($1.25 million) ₩1.84 billion ($1.35 million)
Q2 2025 ₩2.52 billion ($1.86 million) ₩1.65 billion ($1.22 million)
Full year 2025 ₩9.27 billion ($6.84 million) ₩7.38 billion ($5.44 million)
Full year 2024 ₩9.74 billion ($7.18 million) ₩15.93 billion ($11.7 million)

In a Jan. 22, 2026 filing, the company gave three reasons for its 2025 results: "stagnant sales due to intensifying competition in the CRO market," "continued spending on bio R&D" and "increased derivative valuation losses" (translated from Korean). The 2024 figures are consolidated, while the 2025 figures cover the parent company alone after a subsidiary was liquidated, the filing said.

The net loss for 2025 was ₩14.87 billion ($11.0 million). Of that, ₩5.49 billion ($4.0 million) was a valuation loss on the derivative part of its convertible bonds, which the company called "a loss with no actual cash outflow" in a second filing the same day (translated from Korean).

What the Company Does

Penetrium Bioscience was founded in 2003 as ADM Korea and listed on the KOSDAQ, Korea's market for smaller and growth companies, on June 3, 2021. Hyundai Bioscience bought control in May 2024, and the company became Hyundai ADM Bio in August 2024 before taking its current name on March 6, 2026, its half-year report shows.

Most of its revenue still comes from contract research, the work of designing, running and monitoring clinical trials for drug and biotech companies. Of ₩3.81 billion ($2.81 million) in first-half 2026 revenue, 58.85% came from late-phase studies that track drugs after approval, 35.59% from clinical trial services and 5.57% from rent.

Property is a large part of the balance sheet. Investment property made up ₩11.2 billion ($8.3 million) of ₩34.1 billion ($25.2 million) in total assets at June 30, 2026.

The drug side centers on Penetrium, which the half-year report calls a drug-delivery platform for improved new drugs, based on technology licensed exclusively from Hyundai Bioscience. The Asia Business Daily described it in March 2026 as "an oral formulation drug based on niclosamide, an existing anthelmintic ingredient," meaning a medicine against parasitic worms.

Company researchers use the term "pseudo-resistance" for cases in which cells and tissue around a tumor, such as cancer-associated fibroblasts, tumor-associated macrophages and the extracellular matrix, keep enough of a cancer drug from reaching the cancer cells, the Financial News reported on Sept. 14, 2026. Penetrium aims to ease that barrier so that a partner drug can reach the inside of a tumor, the newspaper said.

"Whether Penitrium can advance as a new therapeutic paradigm will be steadily verified through future clinical studies," Chairman Cho Wondong said in March 2026, as quoted in English by the Asia Business Daily, which spells the drug's name differently. Hyundai Bioscience separately began a prostate cancer trial of Penetrium at Seoul National University Hospital, News1 reported on June 2, 2026.

The FDA-Cleared Trial

On Sept. 3, 2026, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration cleared the company's plan for a phase 2a trial of Penetrium, according to a filing that day. The clearance covers an investigational new drug (IND) application, the filing a company needs before testing an experimental medicine on patients in the U.S., and a phase 2a trial is an early, small test of whether a drug shows signs of working.

The trial will give Penetrium alongside the standard treatment for each tumor type to 18 patients at three U.S. sites, all with advanced solid tumors that have come back or stopped responding to treatment. Its main measure is the objective response rate, the share of patients whose tumors shrink enough on scans to count as a complete or partial response under the RECIST 1.1 criteria.

The filing sets modest statistical goals. It says the study will run no formal hypothesis tests and will report results descriptively, over about 24 months from the FDA clearance depending on how fast patients enroll, with an expected end date of Sept. 3, 2028.

It also carries a warning. "The probability that a drug in clinical trials receives final approval as a medicine is known to be about 10% statistically," the company wrote (translated from Korean).

Cash, Debt and Dilution

The trial needs money that has been hard to raise. Cash and cash equivalents fell to ₩424 million ($313,000) at June 30, 2026, against ₩5.0 billion ($3.7 million) of short-term borrowings, and credit rater NICE D&B graded the company BB-, with a cash-flow rating of D, in April 2026.

On April 30, 2026, the company planned to raise ₩73.9 billion ($54.4 million) by selling 8.5 million new shares to shareholders at an expected ₩8,690 each. The price followed a formula based on recent trading at a 25% discount, and as the share price fell, the final price came to ₩3,085.

The offering raised ₩26.2 billion ($19.3 million) on Aug. 13, 2026, or 35.5% of the plan. Demand was not the problem: existing shareholders took 84.0% of the issue, and the public offering of the rest drew orders for 319,445,286 shares against 762,339 on offer, about 419 to 1.

The research budget shrank with the raise. The company now plans to spend ₩20.0 billion ($14.7 million) on research from July 2026 to June 2028, down from ₩55.0 billion in the April plan, including ₩10.0 billion ($7.4 million) for the U.S. trial instead of ₩26.07 billion.

The new shares lifted the share count 15.3% to 63,966,253, and the Nov. 6 close was 2.04 times the ₩3,085 issue price. Hyundai Bioscience held 25.99% and, with four related parties, 37.57% as of Oct. 14, 2026, when it reported that it had pledged 9 million shares, or 14.07% of the company, as collateral for payments on its own convertible bonds.

The January filing flagged one more risk. It said the 2025 pre-tax loss included a valuation loss on financial liabilities with price-reset terms and that, once confirmed by the auditor, the loss would not lead to designation as an "administrative issue," a KOSDAQ warning status. No such designation appears in the company's DART filings through Nov. 6, 2026.

Korea context: Since Sept. 14, 2026, the Korea Exchange has run an after-market session from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. in Seoul, so prices keep moving after regular trading ends at 3:30 p.m. in Seoul. The exchange treats the 3:30 p.m. price as the official close, the figure used for market values and derivatives, Money Today reported, while many brokerage apps show the last after-market trade instead. The ₩6,290 used here is the official close, and the next day's 30% price limit is measured from the previous day's close. Our guide to buying Korean stocks from abroad explains the trading sessions.

Earnings Per Share

Penetrium has no positive earnings per share (EPS) to value, the measure foreign investors usually start with. The latest annual figure on the Korea Economic Daily's financial summary is a 2024 loss per share of ₩475 ($0.35), on a net loss attributable to shareholders of ₩20.10 billion ($14.8 million).

Operating losses continued through 2025 and the first half of 2026, as the table above shows, so a price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) is not meaningful. The share count also rose 15.3% with the August offering. Any future profit would be spread over more shares, which lowers EPS for each shareholder.

What to Watch

Three things will test the Nov. 6 move. The third-quarter report will show how much of the August money was left and whether the operating loss narrowed from ₩1.86 billion in the second quarter.

The second is the U.S. trial's first patient, which the company has not yet announced. The third is funding: with the research budget cut by more than half, any new share sale would add to the 63,966,253 shares now outstanding.

Taken together, Penetrium's ₩402 billion value rests on an 18-patient U.S. trial, while its filings show shrinking contract-research revenue, cash of ₩424 million before the August raise and a research budget cut to ₩20.0 billion. The next fixed date in those filings is Sept. 3, 2028, the trial's expected end.
