GnCenergy Shares Rise 13.2% as JP Morgan Discloses 5.07% Stake
GnCenergy rose 13.2% on Nov. 6, 2026 as the KOSDAQ fell 5% and a filing showed JP Morgan holds 5.07%. Orders are up, but first-half profit fell 46%.

GnCenergy shares rose 13.16% to ₩35,250 ($25.98) on Nov. 6, 2026, even as fears over AI data center investment pushed Korea's KOSDAQ index down 5.03%. The company makes emergency generators, and data centers are its biggest market.
The gain came on the day a regulatory filing showed that J.P. Morgan Securities PLC, a London-based investment bank, held 5.07% of the company. GnCenergy trades on the KOSDAQ, the Korea Exchange's market for smaller and growth companies, under the code 119850, and was worth about ₩580 billion ($427 million) at the close.
Won amounts here are converted at ₩1,356.6 per dollar, the won's 3:30 p.m. rate in Seoul on Nov. 6, 2026, as reported by the Korea Herald.
Orders are the main story. Between July 2 and Sept. 11, 2026, GnCenergy disclosed six data center generator contracts worth a combined ₩254.1 billion ($187.3 million), equal to 96.7% of its 2025 revenue of ₩262.6 billion ($193.6 million), its filings show.
| Filed | Project | Customer | Value | Contract ends |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| July 2 | Gumi AI data center | Samsung SDS | ₩29.7 billion ($21.9 million) | May 2029 |
| July 15 | Yongin Deokseong AI data center | Samsung C&T | ₩33.2 billion ($24.5 million) | March 2028 |
| July 30 | National AI Computing Center | Samsung C&T | ₩36.0 billion ($26.5 million) | Oct. 2028 |
| Aug. 3 | SGC AI Infra Gunsan data center | KT | ₩75.5 billion ($55.7 million) | Dec. 2027 |
| Aug. 4 | Siheung data center, gas turbine units | KINX, now Core Hub Sihwa PFV | ₩32.8 billion ($24.2 million) | March 2029 |
| Sept. 11 | Paju Center Building 4 | LG Uplus | ₩46.9 billion ($34.5 million) | Sept. 2028 |
Values exclude value-added tax. The Siheung contract passed on Oct. 22, 2026 from KINX, a data center operator, to Core Hub Sihwa PFV, a data center development company, with the amount unchanged.
Profits have not kept pace. Operating profit for the first half of 2026 fell 46.4% from a year earlier to ₩14.6 billion ($10.7 million), revenue slipped 4.1% to ₩121.9 billion ($89.9 million), and the operating margin dropped from 21.4% to 11.9%.
The second quarter was better than the first. The margin recovered to 15.28% from 7.9%, with operating profit of ₩10.2 billion ($7.5 million) on revenue of ₩66.5 billion ($49.0 million), though operating profit was still 16.8% lower than a year earlier.
Costs drove the decline. The gross margin fell from 27.6% to 21.5%, and selling and administrative expenses rose from ₩7.9 billion ($5.8 million) to ₩11.7 billion ($8.6 million), but the company gave no reason, because Korean disclosure standards let it leave the management discussion section of a half-year report blank.
Net profit rose to ₩26.4 billion ($19.5 million), above operating profit, thanks to ₩22.4 billion ($16.5 million) of finance income. That included ₩6.8 billion ($5.0 million) of foreign exchange gains, ₩4.7 billion ($3.5 million) of derivative valuation gains and ₩4.0 billion ($3.0 million) of interest income.
The company says data centers are where it is growing. GnCenergy "is expanding its supply of emergency generators, centered on facilities with large power demand such as data centers," it said in its half-year report (translated from Korean).
Who Is Buying and Selling
JP Morgan's position was mostly in place before the filing. It held 811,628 shares on Nov. 2, 2026, bought 17,885 more on the market at ₩31,248 ($23.03) each on Nov. 3, and added 4,060 through an entry marked "On-Lend," for a total of 833,573 shares.
The filing lists the purpose as "simple investment," the short form for holders that do not seek to influence management. It does not break the stake down between JP Morgan's own account and client accounts.
Two Korean fund managers moved the other way. KB Asset Management cut its stake from 7.21% on July 31 to 4.10% on Oct. 31, 2026, and VIP Asset Management cut its stake from 5.37% to 3.82% as of Sept. 9, 2026, their filings show.
Korea context: Under Article 147 of Korea's Capital Markets Act, an investor whose holding in a listed company reaches 5% must report it within five days, and must report again when the stake moves by 1 percentage point or more. A "simple investment" filing like JP Morgan's shows who holds the shares. It does not say why, or for how long.
What GnCenergy Makes
GnCenergy designs, builds and installs diesel and gas turbine generators that supply power when the grid fails, for data centers, research centers, plants and buildings. Generators made up 73.2% of first-half 2026 revenue, and units for data centers and R&D centers alone brought in ₩66.8 billion ($49.2 million), or 54.8% of the total.
It also runs a 34-megawatt heavy fuel oil power plant in Papua New Guinea, bought in June 2024, which meets about 30% of power demand in the Ramu region. Power sales from the plant were 16.6% of first-half revenue.
Founded in 1989 and listed on the KOSDAQ in 2013, the company is based in Seoul. Chief Executive Ahn Byung-chul, the largest shareholder since its founding, owns 30.46%, and the order backlog was ₩414.7 billion ($305.7 million) on June 30, 2026, before any of the six contracts above were signed.
Earnings Per Share
GnCenergy earned ₩2,428 ($1.79) per share in 2025, up 4% from ₩2,340 in 2024, according to FnGuide data on Naver Finance. Earnings per share (EPS) is net profit attributable to shareholders divided by the share count.
Growth picked up in 2026. EPS was ₩748 in the first quarter and ₩863 in the second, or ₩1,611 ($1.19) for the half, two-thirds of the 2025 total. The Q3 results have not been filed yet, and most of the data center contracts above run into 2027 to 2029, so they will reach EPS over several years.
At ₩35,250, the shares traded at 14.5 times 2025 EPS and 13.4 times the FnGuide consensus of ₩2,635 ($1.94) for 2026. That estimate implies second-half EPS of about ₩1,024, below the first half, so it would rise if the new orders lift profit sooner.
What Analysts Say
IBK Securities analyst Jo Eun-ae began coverage on Sept. 9, 2026 with a Buy rating and a ₩70,000 ($51.60) target, when the previous close was ₩44,800 ($33.02), Financial News reported. She put GnCenergy's share of Korea's data center emergency generator market at about 70%.
"The AI data center projects being pursued by GS Group, NAVER, and SK, with completion targeted for 2029, total 8.4 GW," Jo said, according to Financial News' English edition. She converted that into ₩4.2 trillion ($3.10 billion) of emergency generator demand, of which a 70% share would be about ₩2.9 trillion ($2.14 billion).
Timing favors the generator makers, in her view: "Because emergency generators are ordered before data center construction begins, new orders are expected to come in faster," she said. IBK forecast new orders of ₩470 billion ($346 million) in 2026, ₩900 billion ($663 million) in 2027 and ₩1 trillion ($737 million) in 2028, Hankyung reported.
NH Investment & Securities gave no rating or target. GnCenergy "has entered an unprecedented growth cycle based on its dominant position in the data center infrastructure market," NH said in a July 23, 2026 report by analyst Mok Jin-won, according to Edaily's English edition.
Mok expects wider use of gas turbines, which earn more than diesel units, to lift profitability, and wrote that "the operating profit margin is projected to reach around 20% by 2028."
At ₩35,250, the stock is about half of IBK's target and 21% below the close before IBK's report. Over the past 52 weeks it has traded between ₩18,350 ($13.53) and ₩59,000 ($43.49), according to Hankyung market data.
What to Watch
The third-quarter report is the next test. Korean listed companies must file quarterly reports within 45 days of the quarter's end, which puts GnCenergy's in mid-November 2026, and it will show whether the second-quarter margin of 15.28% held.
The second question is whether higher-margin gas turbine work reaches sales. The Siheung contract, the only gas turbine order among the six, runs to March 2029. For how investors outside Korea can buy KOSDAQ shares, see our guide on how to buy Korean stocks from abroad.
The third is JP Morgan's next move. Any change of 1 percentage point or more in its 5.07% stake would require a new filing.
Taken together, GnCenergy signed contracts worth almost a year of revenue in about ten weeks, yet its first-half operating profit fell by nearly half, and the Nov. 6 rise came with an ownership filing rather than new earnings. The third-quarter report, due in mid-November 2026, is the next dated check on whether those orders are turning into profit.
