Korea Investment Holdings Falls 17% as Q3 Profit Drops 58%
Korea Investment Holdings fell 17.3% on Nov. 6, 2026, after Q3 net profit dropped 58% on currency and trading losses. Four brokerages cut their targets.

Korea Investment Holdings fell 17.34% to ₩121,600 ($89.64) on Nov. 6, 2026, a day after reporting that its third-quarter net profit dropped 58% from a year earlier. The fall was nearly three times the 6.02% loss in the KOSPI, Korea's main stock index, on a day when a circuit breaker halted trading in Seoul.
The results matter because the group is built around a brokerage, Korea Investment & Securities, so its profit moves with the stock market. In the July-to-September quarter, currency and trading losses cut profit sharply, and four brokerages lowered their price targets for the shares on Nov. 6.
The company's profile on the Korea Economic Daily's market data site describes it as Korea's only financial holding company centered on the financial investment business, with units in securities, asset management, venture capital and savings banking. It is listed on the KOSPI under the code 071050. Won amounts in this article are converted at ₩1,356.6 per dollar, the Seoul closing rate on Nov. 6, 2026.
| Q3 2026, preliminary | Amount | Change from Q3 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | ₩11.18 trillion ($8.24 billion) | Up 85.73% |
| Operating profit | ₩300.4 billion ($221.4 million) | Down 64.62% |
| Net profit attributable to shareholders | ₩282.3 billion ($208.1 million) | Down 58.1% |
The figures come from the company's preliminary consolidated filing on Nov. 5, 2026, as reported by the Seoul Economic Daily and the Financial News. Revenue rose 86% while profit fell, so for this company the profit lines are the ones to read. Net profit was also about 72% lower than in the second quarter, the Seoul Economic Daily reported.
The longer view is stronger. The group earned ₩1.915 trillion ($1.41 billion) in the first half alone, close to its full-year 2025 profit of ₩2.0243 trillion ($1.49 billion), the paper reported. Adding the third quarter puts nine-month profit at about ₩2.2 trillion ($1.62 billion), already more than all of 2025, by this article's calculation.
"We are focusing on finding new sources of revenue and managing risk as volatility has widened in the second half," an official at Korea Investment & Securities told the Seoul Economic Daily (translated from Korean). The official said the firm would make active use of its solid capital and diversified business portfolio to respond early to market changes.
Where the Profit Went
Currency was the surprise. News1, reporting on a note from NH Investment & Securities that called the currency loss unexpected, put the group's pre-tax foreign-exchange loss for the quarter at ₩166.7 billion ($122.9 million). The Financial News reported that the loss came from about $700 million in foreign currency the group had raised early to repay foreign-currency debt, and that bond trading also suffered as interest rates rose.
Most of the brokerage unit's revenue lines fell from the second quarter. At Korea Investment & Securities, net operating revenue from proprietary trading dropped 51.6% to ₩158.3 billion ($116.7 million), brokerage commissions fell 36.5% to ₩287.2 billion ($211.7 million) and sales commissions on financial products fell 60.2% to ₩100.1 billion ($73.8 million), the Seoul Economic Daily reported.
Two subsidiaries lost money. Korea Investment Value Asset Management swung to a net loss of ₩40 billion ($29.5 million) and Korea Investment Savings Bank lost ₩13 billion ($9.6 million) in the quarter, according to the same report.
One line grew. Investment banking revenue at Korea Investment & Securities rose 12.0% from the second quarter to ₩216.4 billion ($159.5 million), and its share of the domestic equity market climbed to 13.31% from 12.11%, the paper reported.
Earnings Per Share
Korea Investment Holdings earned ₩32,808 ($24.18) per share in 2025, up 94% from ₩16,883 in 2024, according to FnGuide data on Naver Finance. Earnings per share (EPS) is net profit attributable to shareholders divided by the share count.
The first half of 2026 nearly matched all of 2025. EPS was ₩14,856 in the first quarter and ₩16,172 in the second, or ₩31,028 ($22.87) for the half. On the Q3 attributable net profit of ₩282.3 billion and the share count implied by the Q2 figures, third-quarter EPS works out to about ₩4,580 ($3.38), down 58% from a year earlier, by our calculation.
At ₩121,600, the shares traded at 3.7 times 2025 EPS and 2.8 times the FnGuide consensus of ₩42,729 ($31.50) for 2026. That estimate assumed Q3 attributable net profit of ₩528.3 billion, almost twice the reported figure, so it is likely to come down.
Why the Shares Fell 17%
The results landed on a fragile market. The Nasdaq Composite had its worst session in 18 months on Nov. 5, 2026, on worries that Democratic wins in the midterm elections would slow data center construction, CNBC reported. The next morning, a circuit breaker halted KOSPI trading for 20 minutes from 9:03 a.m. in Seoul after the index fell more than 8%, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported, citing Yonhap.
Most of the extra loss was the company's own. The securities sector ended Nov. 6 down 5.74%, a little less than the KOSPI, the Asia Business Daily reported, while Korea Investment Holdings dropped as much as 21.5% to ₩115,500 before closing at ₩121,600, according to the Korea Economic Daily's market data.
At that close, the stock was about 60% below its 52-week high of ₩300,500. It had closed at ₩246,500 on Feb. 12, 2026, the day after it announced a dividend of ₩8,690 a share for 2025, Money Today reported.
What Analysts Say
Four brokerages cut their price targets on Nov. 6, 2026, according to the Seoul Economic Daily, News1 and the Financial News.
| Brokerage | Previous target | New target |
|---|---|---|
| Hana Securities | ₩318,000 | ₩249,000 ($184) |
| Samsung Securities | ₩290,000 | ₩235,000 ($173) |
| NH Investment & Securities | ₩300,000 | ₩220,000 ($162) |
| iM Securities | ₩284,000 | ₩198,000 ($146) |
The four new targets average ₩225,500 ($166), about 24% below the average of the previous targets, by this article's calculation. iM Securities kept its buy rating, the Financial News reported.
"Quarterly earnings volatility from changes in the value of investment assets is unavoidable as the stock market weakens," said Jung Min-ki, an analyst at Samsung Securities, according to the Seoul Economic Daily (translated from Korean). Ko Yeon-su of Hana Securities pointed to the other side of the business: "A solid IB revenue base and a high brokerage market share will support earnings power over the medium to long term," Ko said, according to the same paper (translated from Korean).
Seol Yong-jin of iM Securities said the quarter produced "somewhat disappointing results even after taking into account the impact of valuation losses on foreign-currency assets," the Financial News reported (translated from Korean). He added that "its dependence on brokerage earnings is relatively low, and it is pursuing profit through equity-based businesses such as issued notes and comprehensive investment accounts (IMA)," according to the paper (translated from Korean).
Two of the brokerages pointed to the dividend. NH Investment & Securities expects a dividend of ₩11,000 a share, a 7.5% yield, News1 reported, and iM Securities expects ₩10,200 a share for 2026, or 6.9%, according to the Financial News. For 2025, the company declared ₩8,690 a share, a consolidated payout ratio of 25.1%, Money Today reported.
Korea context: The KOSPI has a market-wide circuit breaker. When the index stays at least 8% below the previous session's close for one minute, trading stops for 20 minutes, with only order cancellations allowed, and then resumes with a 10-minute single-price auction, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported. The Nov. 6 halt was the 11th of 2026 and the 17th on record, according to the Asia Business Daily, and individual stocks also face a daily limit of 30% from their base price under Korea Exchange rules.
What to Watch
The full quarterly report comes first. Korea's capital markets law gives a listed company 45 days after the end of a quarter to file it, which puts the filing in mid-November 2026, and it should show in more detail where the currency loss arose.
Trading income comes next. The fourth-quarter figures will show whether proprietary trading revenue recovers from ₩158.3 billion, while further market declines could again cut the value of assets held by units such as Korea Investment Value Asset Management.
The dividend is the third test. The company announced its 2025 dividend on Feb. 11, 2026, and the two brokerages expect the next payout to be ₩10,200 to ₩11,000 a share. Our guide to buying Korean stocks from abroad explains how dividends on Korean shares are taxed for foreign holders.
Taken together, the quarter showed how quickly currency and trading losses can cut a brokerage group's profit when Korean stocks fall, and the next detail arrives with the full quarterly report due in mid-November 2026.
